After five years is a long time to stay relevant, passionate and real on the frontline. From its roots in the Berlin club scene to La Macarena Barcelona by way of its spiritual home at Gazgolder in Moscow and so on to the globe-trotting, multi-faceted entity that it is today, Sonic Recordings is living proof of how to do it right. The fundamental heartbeat of this European house and techno institution is the maverick music that its affiliated artists make.. Piecing together this compilation, the idea from label founders Matheiu and Alejandro Barrios was simply to represent where their brainchild is at right now, from guests at their events in the early days to more recent collaborators of all kinds. The diversity on offer across the three 19s and digital tracks of this compilation show just how deep the tastes of the label truly run. There are long-time scene veterans such as Tolga Fidan, Digitaline and WEG. There are well-established wildcards such as Dutch deviants as Giorgio Maulini, Chak Besh, Matheiu, Christopher Lawrenz, Sascha Sander, L'amitie, Mad Dim, Yulia Niko and Enzo Leep and there are newer talents such as Nahste Ohner, Rozen and Jan Damkinsun from Slowdance Moscow. Amongst all the artists assembled to demonstrate just what makes this collective of dreamers and visionaries tick. Whatever their back-story, all the artists in the Sonic Recordings story are notable for making music rich with personality. When so much modern club music can pander to monotony and conformity, each track on the compilation has an individual story to tell, whether it be through samples triggered or synths played, the shuffle of the groove or the twisting of a vocal. What holds this array of sounds together is a shared feeling for a certain dancefloor dynamic; that unfettering ability to inspire any size of crowd to collectively lose themselves and their inhibitions without resorting to obvious tricks and stunts.
