The Latin word Gratia has a wide range of meanings, which is hard to capture in one single English word. This is due to the fact that Gratia is a two-way word, which can define both your relationship to others, while also the relationship they have to you.
This reciprocal relationship embodied in the word gratia helps to expose the deep logic of today's proverb - and also the impossibility of translating it.
Many words has derived from Gratia. Grace, Gracious, Grateful, Gratitude, maybe even Ingrate. Even so, all these words together do not manage to cover the full definition of Gratia, so we wrote a song about it instead, and see if that helps.
