"The first time I met Jacques, we were sitting at the same table but we didn't exchange any words. The second time, a year later, we started speaking. A lot. During hours. About Vipassana, a technique of meditation that you practice in silence. The third time, I thought I should share his words and breaths, delivering the untold. So I offered him to record a Sapiens Talk. The fourth time, we both agreed it was finally time to record music together."
These are Agoria's words about his collaboration with Jacques. They represent the way this EP was conceived: the desire to express the spiritual connection between these two artists through music. On the one hand, there is Jacques, a musician who pushes back the border between music, sound and noise. Music is his medium of expression on his quest of transversality. He was invited to several TEDx conferences to talk about his obsession with the idea of infinity, where he also revealed his new theory called "Vortex". Created by Alexandre Gain and himself in 2015, the National Vortex Research Center is a research program designed to study Vortex phenomena such as sweeping sweepers or drilling a drill.
On the other hand, there is Agoria, a worldwide-known DJ and producer. He gained international recognition in 2002 with his album Blossom, followed by three more long-players: The Green Armchair (2006), Go Fast Soundtrack (2008), Impermanence (2011). His DJ skills were also rewarded with his four mix-CDs, considered by Resident Advisor (At The Controls series 2007) as one of the best of the past decade. He founded the Nuits Sonores festival and the Infine label. In 2016, he launched his new label Sapiens that premiered with his most recent hit single "Up All Night". He is currently working on his 5th album which will be released in 2019.
So, take some of Jacques' improvised recorded show that embodies his creativity, add Agoria's subtle production skills that have been developed over 2 decades spent in the high-end techno sphere, and you'll get this 2-track EP. It is a skilled reinterpretation of Jacques' "Transversal Techno", a musical concept between techno and concrete music where slamming doors, singing birds or sampled glasses' noises are to be expected by Agoria's ability to create deep, stripped-back, melodic techno tracks. This EP will be released on Sapiens and Pain Surprise on June 14th, 2019.
