Since its formation in 2006, Costa Rican label MoonChild Records has pushed the boundaries of quality underground music. And with global support from luminary artists such as Hernan Cattaneo, Steve Lawler and Armin van Buuren, it is assured that they will continue for a good few releases yet! Truly an international affair, hometown hero Rebel One, hot from successes with Stripped Digital and Puchero Records provides three highly creative Originals with remixes from Jackie Mayden and Andre Salmon.
Blood Moon hits the ground running with its dense compression and claustrophobic feel. Stripped back and deadly it's lures you on to the floor with cunning spoken word passages and overdriven guitar licks. On the remix, Ukrainian newcomer Jackie Mayden takes things in a deeply tribal and progressive direction keeping the percussion sparse and allowing the synth motifs to breathe and grow.
With trademark energy from the first bar New Awakening powers into life. The master of subtle addition, Rebel One slowly adds all the necessary tension and excitement with some carefully chosen synth shots for maximum effect all leading to a break of epic proportions. Ecuadorian born, Andre Salmon opts for an austere remix, utilising the vocal elements and pads and giving an overall tech house feel.
Finally, Hollyweed growls into view. Gritty and raw, it's off kilter drum arrangement and dystopian pads create an otherworldly vibe. Vocal samples and cleverly orchestrated percussive nuances add to the old school prog feel.
