When discussing his music, the young producer NAMPA, whose first single "Fabulous" is being released on May 25, 2018, is crystal clear: "This project means a lot to me. It's my passion, it's the result of years of work, it's my baby. It has given me a lot of confidence." Indeed, when listening to his music, everything sounds like a synthesis. A coming together of his influences: French Touch, electronic-pop and Motown, but also his different musical experiences. Because even if NAMPA is a young project, a mix of disco, funk and pop, the man bringing them all together is anything but a novice.
He was born in Malakoff, very close to Paris. Hence the name NAMPA. "It's a play on the word 'Paname', French slang for Paris. It's an expression of how I see and feel the city where I'm from: I'm a guy from the suburbs who hangs out and plays his music in the capital." Brought up to the sound of the piano from an early age, he was introduced to electronic music very early, in grade school. The click was immediate, of course, but not only for machines. He was also embracing rock music at the same time. Combining these various ways of working, seeing and approaching music is in the DNA of this multi-instrumentalist musician, with his eclectic and sophisticated sound palette. His versatility also allows him to display his talent as a deejay, working in famous Parisian clubs such as the La Machine du Moulin Rouge, Faust or Wanderlust.
His tracks sound like snapshots of real life, or heady concepts, but they're cut for live performances. He's been perfecting his live act throughout his musical career, especially with his rock band, 8e Pli. The labels Opening Lights and DDM Recordings were quick to support his project, so full of potential. And now the potential is becoming a reality. His first EP will be unveiled in the fall of 2018.
